Working on some ideas to use Twitter at Grace as a full force marketing tool. Came across this interesting bit of information: Dell made $1M in revenue through Twitter last year. Wow… talk about hi-tech offering opportunities!

Look for new and improved Tweets coming soon. The creative and media teams are currently working on ideas and we’ll start rolling out the campaign soon. Follow Grace if you want to be in on the fun.

Wednesday, keep it simple.

Getting ready to roll out a stand alone weekend talk for Garden Oaks. Thinking about a little time spent in the simple church arena, love God, love people, love serving. The truth is we’re just weeks away from the long awaited opening of Theater A! Over the last several weeks the weekend attendance has been rising and there’s a genuine spirit of anticipation that greater things are yet to come. As we roll forward, we need to keep it simple.

Love God. Our Core.

Love People. Our Cause.

Love to Serve. Our Contract.

When we live out these simple truths in our lives, we make a maximum impact in the world around us.  I came across an old blog from Perry Noble recently. It stated that most churches are just one change away from doubling in size. What if the one change is committing to live a simple life style? Remove tradition, escape the ‘I gotta be big’ mentality and do the right things right; seems simple enough.

Well, to the drawing board.

Weekend Prep

October 6, 2009 thecolegroves Leave a comment

Looking ahead to this weekend, it’s going to gigantic! John Ragsdale will be at our Humble campus all weekend! Plus, it’s SALT weekend, our gathering for volunteers at Grace!

SALT is one of my favorite events- it’s our chance to share vision, encourage one another and experience the power of ‘we speak.’  The idea of saying the same thing came from a sermon from Pastor Scott Jones a few years ago. It’s amazing what happens when we say the same thing! We say it a lot at Grace, “words create worlds!” Well, at SALT we speak to the power of team ministry and a unified spirit! If you’re a volunteer at Grace, a friend of Grace or an aspiring leader, don’t miss SALT. (10.11 @ 4p)

Mondays are typically days off for the pastors at Grace.  It’s nice to slow down, let the email accumulate and spend time with the family.

Today, however, I’ve had a hard time shutting down my brain.  I’ve been reflecting on the powerful weekend at Grace!  It began Friday and Saturday with the Awakening Conference. Donya S and crew rocked it! Full tilt excellence, great crowds and lives impacted. Way to go Donya!

Saturday and Sunday night services were off the hook! The band was in fire, the 6degrees choir brought down the house and Pastor Scott slammed the sermon! Altars were packed and lives were changed!

Like Hannibal from The A-Team used to say, I love it when a plan comes together!

Been a huge fan of P.Dino Rizzo for a long time. Recently spent some time with him in Nashville. Loved every minute of it.

Here’s what he’s up right now.  Join in on the prayer focus and stay tuned for a plan of action.

One of my favorite quotes from P.Dino, “When all else fails, love people!”

The Monkey and the Fish.

Digesting the thoughts from Dave Gibbons’ recent book, The Monkey and the Fish, pretty good stuff. Here’s a excerpt from the book that I think is a pretty powerful illustration:

“You put water into a cup, and it becomes the cup. You put water into the bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it into the teapot and it becomes the teapot.  The water can flow. The water can crash. Be water, my friend.”

I’ve been on a quest to make sure that I more fluid. More flexible. I don’t want to be stuck in a rut, or have only one view for the life I’m living. I don’t want to miss out on opportunities to reach the community I live in because the knock on the door wasn’t at a convenient time.  I’ve got a plan, I’m prepared for each day, but most of all I want to be fluid enough to fit each situation that God places me in. I like being water.

My Brett Favre Impersonation.

OK, call me Brett Farve if you like. Started blogging, retired.  Started blogging again, retired again.  If Brett Favre can return a third time and lead his team to more dramatic come from behind victories, then surely I can return to the blogging world to jot notes and share creative ideas.

Well, it’s good to be back.  I’m going to keep this post short and sweet.  Came across this ‘big picture‘ idea as I was perusing the top church marketing websites.  It’s great to see guys who get it, we’re all in this together.  Gotta admit if Joel Olsteen or Ed Young recommended Grace from their site, I’d be pretty stoked.

Honestly, finding this site challenged me quite a bit- gonna have to start working on the list of churches in my area that I’d recommend. I’ll keep you posted…
